https://www.sgscol.ac.uk/ We are looking to appoint a Learner Engagement Officer who will be responsible for assisting the team in ensuring students are punctual, attend lessons and commit fully to their studies inside and outside of the classroom. Importantly, you will work with students to model positive behaviours and take greater ownership of their progress. You will be responsible for helping to celebrate excellence, but also putting in timely interventions as and when required.
This role will sit within the cross-college English and maths department, and the postholder will report directly to the Learning Area Manager.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities - Access and analyse attendance data daily to identify patterns of concern.
- Take immediate safeguarding action when necessary, referring cases to the Safeguarding and Support Team.
- Identify students with concerning attendance trends and coordinate interventions with relevant staff, including Wellbeing Mentors, to provide targeted support.
- Develop strong partnerships with parents, carers, and external agencies to promote attendance, punctuality, and overall well-being.
- Regularly meet with the Learning Area Manager (LAM) to discuss attendance concerns and intervention strategies.
- Provide weekly attendance summaries and progress reports for LAM, ensuring timely communication of concerns and achievements.
- Administer attendance-related IT systems, ensuring accurate data recording, maintenance, and report generation for monitoring and analysis.
- Mentor learners to identify progression routes and overcome barriers to participation, collaborating with support teams to promote inclusion and well-being.
Beneficial Skills & Qualifications - Ability to access, read, and interpret attendance and absence data to identify patterns, trends, and areas requiring intervention.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and the ability to refer students to appropriate support systems, including Wellbeing Mentors and external agencies.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships with students, parents, carers, and staff, fostering collaboration and support for attendance and well-being initiatives.
- Ability to work effectively with teams, including Learning Area Managers, Faculty Managers, and Safeguarding Teams, to develop and implement attendance and intervention strategies.
- Competence in using IT systems for data management, report generation, and maintaining accurate attendance records.
- Skills in mentoring students to support personal growth, guide them toward progression pathways, and implement positive behaviour management strategies in line with College policies.
These skills combine technical, interpersonal, and safeguarding competencies essential for promoting attendance, engagement, and learner development.
