Job Title: Lead Teacher of SEND
Salary: MPS/UPS
Hours: 32.5 hours/52.143 weeks per year, term time only/Permanent (Monday - Friday)
Thank you for your interest in joining our school. We're proud to have been rated 'Good' by Ofsted and are working to become a national leader in education. Our goal is simple: to help every student succeed and have the opportunity to access university, empowering them to excel in their futures.
We are excited to offer a unique and rewarding opportunity for a passionate and talented primary specialist to join our secondary school as Lead Teacher of SEND. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in supporting learners with additional needs, who is looking to broaden their experience in a secondary environment and develop into a future SENDCO.
About the Role:
You will take a lead role in delivering high-quality teaching to our three Key Stage 3 nurture groups - small cohorts of students who begin secondary school significantly below age-related expectations. Your teaching will focus on building foundational skills in literacy, numeracy, humanities, and personal development through enrichment activities. The ability to deliver effective phonics teaching is essential to help close literacy gaps and build confidence in reading.
You will be instrumental in supporting these students' academic and emotional growth, ensuring they are fully prepared for the next stages of their education.
This is not just a teaching post - it is a stepping stone towards leadership within SEND. The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Ted Wragg Trust Future SENDCO programme and will have the opportunity to complete the National SENDCO qualification (if desired), fully supported by the school.
This role is suitable for an ambitious ECT who is passionate about SEND and ready to take on a highly rewarding and developmental opportunity, as well as experienced teachers looking to progress into SEND leadership.
We are looking for someone who:
• Has a primary teaching background, ideally with experience in SEND or nurture-based approaches
• Can confidently and effectively teach phonics to students with significant gaps in reading
• Is passionate about inclusive education and dedicated to removing barriers to learning
• Can deliver a broad and engaging curriculum that meets the needs of learners significantly below age-related expectations
• Has the ambition and drive to develop into a future SEND leader
• Is nurturing, resilient, and committed to making a real difference in young people's lives
In return, we offer:
• A truly unique opportunity to work in a secondary setting while using your primary expertise
• Outstanding professional development through the Ted Wragg Future SENDCO cohort
• Full support to gain your SENDCO qualification
• A dynamic, supportive and forward-thinking SEND team
• Half-termly wellbeing time where staff can finish early or start late
• Supportive and visible leadership team
• Bespoke wellbeing zone for SEND students
• Centralised behaviour system
• A chance to help shape the future of SEND provision in our school
