The Role
We seek to appoint a skilled and dedicated Counsellor to join an expert team from September 2025. The counselling service at Francis Holland School (ContemPlace) exemplifies best practice, and we are proud to offer fully subsidised, one-to-one support to any student in need. The successful applicant will be a knowledgeable, empathetic individual with outstanding communication skills. They will also be a meticulous record-keeper, and someone who is keen to work as part of our team of counsellors, undertaking supervision and CPD in-house. The post is part time, one day per week (9:00am-4:00pm with a 20-minute lunch break), and the working day is Tuesday. The role is term time only.
Person Specific Criteria
- Relevant counselling qualification to at least Masters level
- At least 100 hours experience of counselling children or adults
- Recent post-qualification experience of working in a school setting
- Proficient IT skills to maintain records
- Excellent communication and empathetic skills
Duties and Responsibilities
- To undertake one-to-one counselling with girls between 11 and 18 years old offering therapeutic support within the ethical framework of the BACP.
- To be available to girls wishing to use the drop-in service recognising when referral on to the one-to-one service may be necessary.
- To maintain detailed and confidential records of work with clients using the school's secure CPOMS database. All entries are to be completed on the same day as counselling sessions.
- To attend supervision as required, in accordance with BACP guidelines. This will be provided by the school's Lead Counsellor.
- To understand the role of safeguarding at FHS. To undertake safeguarding training provided by the school and to follow organisational policies and procedures when safeguarding issues arise, including understanding that client confidentiality cannot be maintained in the event of a safeguarding concern.
- To maintain confidentiality at all times, except in the circumstances of a safeguarding concern.
- To represent the ethos of FHS by maintaining a professional and positive manner.
- To attend meetings as required by your manager such as appraisals, supervision etc.
- To liaise with your manager in relation to referring to other agencies where necessary.
