JOB PURPOSE
To provide high-quality classroom supervision during the short-term planned or unplanned absence of teaching staff, including form time and overseeing lessons to ensure continuity of learning and sustained pupil progress. The role involves interpreting and delivering work set by the class teacher while consistently maintaining high expectations for pupil behaviour and engagement. In addition to classroom responsibilities, the cover teacher will support the school's Operations Team with administrative duties and event coordination as required. This role reports to the Deputy Head Academic.
The hours of work are 8.00 am to 4.30pm with one hour lunch break between Monday to Friday, term-time only.

RESPONSIBILITIES
To be an active member of the FHS staff team and to support the academic staff in embedding a strong culture of learning throughout the school.
To attend relevant meetings and provide administrative support as required.
To maintain high expectations and standards at all times contributing to the positive Christian ethos of the school.
Manage pupil conduct in line with school policies using strategies to promote an outstanding attitude to learning, thus ensuring progress continues to take place.
To contribute to the promotion of equal opportunities and the development of a warm inclusive culture in all aspects of their work.
To take personal responsibility for professional development and to participate in the school's arrangements for appraisal and review.
To take responsibility for the safeguarding of young people in line with the school's policies and procedures.
To be willing to obtain a nationally recognised First Aid qualification to assist in the safety and welfare of the students.
To undertake such further activities as may reasonably be directed by the line-manager, Senior Leadership Team or Head.
SPECIAL DUTIES
To cover lessons or form time as required.
Report, as appropriate and in line with school policies and procedures, any problems such as incidents of disruptive or unacceptable behaviour during the lesson.
Assist students during a lesson to complete tasks set either through supporting self-directed study, or assisting pupils by responding to their questions.
Work with teachers to plan cover work for an absence known in advance, and prepare a bank of materials available for unexpected absence.
Provide administrative support for teachers, assisting with classroom displays and other tasks as directed.
Manage health and safety in the classroom, taking appropriate action relating to any problems or emergencies that occur during the lesson.
Assist in the supervision of public and internal examinations as required.
Participate in an induction programme that includes lesson observations of experienced teachers and application and use of school policies and procedures, and actively participate in any further training as directed by the line manager.
In conjunction with the line manager, take responsibility for personal professional development, keeping up-to-date with research and developments related to school efficiency, which may lead to improvements in the day-to-day running of the School.
Provide supervision at breaks and lunchtimes in-line with the school's duty rota.
Be involved in library supervision as required.
Support the operations team in the delivery of day-to-day school operations and events as required.
