https://www.sgscol.ac.uk/ We are seeking an experienced, motivated and creative Dance Lecturer to lead our Level 3 Dance programme at BIPA during a period of maternity cover.The post includes directing and choreographing the students' Final Major Project, delivering a range of dance technique classes, and leading students through the process of preparing and submitting their online portfolios, including research, analysis and performance evidence.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities - Lead and deliver a full timetable of dance technique classes (e.g. ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, commercial).
- Direct, choreograph and oversee the Level 3 Final Major Project from initial planning through to final performance.
- Support students in preparing and uploading portfolio evidence, including research tasks, reflective writing and practical documentation.
- Provide high-quality teaching, feedback and ongoing mentoring to support student development and progression.
- Ensure teaching, assessment and documentation comply with awarding-body standards and SGS/BIPA quality expectations.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to assessment, internal verification and reporting.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across dance, technical theatre and wider performing arts disciplines.
Beneficial Skills & Qualifications Essential criteria:- Strong professional dance background with training and experience across relevant styles.
- Proven experience in choreography and directing performance work.
- Experience teaching at FE Level 3 or equivalent vocational/pre-degree level.
- Understanding of portfolio-based assessment and the ability to guide students in research and documentation.
- Excellent communication, organisational and mentoring skills.
Desirable- Experience working in a vocational performing arts environment.
- Knowledge of current industry practices and expectations.
- Flexibility and willingness to contribute to curriculum planning and cross-departmental work.
