Subject Specialist for Maths: Role Overview and Requirements
We are recruiting for Subject Specialists for the following qualifications:
- 1MA1 GCSE Mathematics (including resits)
- 9FM0 A level Further Mathematics
- 7M20 Level 2 Extended Mathematics Certificate
- 7MC0 Mathematics in Context (Level 3 Core Maths)
- NMA0 Entry Level Certificate in Mathematics
Job Overview
The role of a Subject Specialist for Maths is to support customer events, to deliver training session , as well as to develop of support materials for centres.
This position is focused on assisting teachers involved with the Pearson Edexcel GCSE and/or A level Maths and Statistics qualifications suite .
Subject Specialists are employed on an ad-hoc basis as required (approx. 1 or 2 days per month) over the academic year to support our customer , with payment provided per task or event completed. Customer support activities predominantly occur in February, June, July, September, October, and November.
Applicants will be able to indicate their preference for which of the qualifications (listed above) they would be willing to support with during the recruitment process.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver training or Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to new and existing centres. This can be face-to-face, online (live sessions), or as recorded videos or voiceovers.
- Providing guidance and support to centres on their specific qualification .
- Maintaining professional relationships with designated centres, provid ing support in line with Pearson guidelines .
- Building trusted relationships within your l ocal network.
- Creating teaching and learning resources in their title specialism for the Pearson website as required .
- Create engaging and interactive training materials that adhere to the provided brief and requirements.
- Attending stakeholder meetings/events as appropriate .
- Providing subject expertise and market information back to the product team and subject advisor to inform future developments and support materials.
- Attend meetings with the senior team to advise on training materials, support, resources and any other relevant administration.
- Being a role model for outstanding pedagogy in their specific endorsed title.
About you
The ideal candidate for this role is someone with a genuine passion for maths education, who is deeply committed to inspiring both teachers and students alike. They will possess strong and engaging presentation skills, enabling them to deliver effective training and CPD sessions in a variety of formats, whether in person or online. In addition, they should demonstrate excellent communication and relationship-building abilities, allowing them to provide guidance and support to centres while maintaining professionalism at all times . Creativity and attention to detail are essential, as is the capacity to produce high-quality teaching and learning resources. The successful applicant will also be a collaborative team player, ready to share subject expertise and market insights, attend meetings, and act as a role model for outstanding pedagogy within the Pearson community.
Key Requirements (Essential)
- At least 3 years' experience as a current teacher, or recently left the classroom within the last two years, with in-depth knowledge of Pearson Edexcel Maths specifications.
- Willingness to travel within your local region (specific details to be discussed at interview).
- Be able to represent Pearson Edexcel in a professional manner and offer advice which is in line with advice offered to all Pearson Edexcel centres.
- Ability to deliver engaging presentations and training at Pearson Edexcel events and conferences.
- Strong subject expertise and enthusiasm for advocating mathematics.
- Ability to meet deadlines, report back to Pearson within agreed timeframes , and follow Pearson's guidance.
- Excellent communication, written, verbal, IT, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience delivering training to other teaching professionals, either within schools or externally.
Background, Experience, and Skills (Desirable)
- A degree or higher qualification relevant to the sector or subject area.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Evidence of ongoing Professional Development in your subject specialism.
- Experience examining for Pearson or another awarding organisation .

Candidates undertaking this role will be expected to:
- Travel within their local region or England (details to be confirmed during the interview process).
- Possess personal IT equipment capable of running Pearson's required software.
- Have a reliable broadband connection, microphone, headphones, and a webcam.
- Maintain a personal, secure email account.
- Have a postal address in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland , Guernsey, Jersey, or the Isle of Man.
- Hold the right to work in the UK.
