Package Description: We are seeking an empathetic, motivated and highly skilled Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our dedicated Learning Support team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping them to thrive academically, socially and emotionally within the life of the school.

About the Role
The Learning Support Assistant will:
Pupil Support & Inclusion
- Provide high-quality support for pupils with SEND, ensuring safety and full access to learning both inside and outside the classroom.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Pupil Support Plans (PSPs) and small-group interventions (e.g. Executive Functioning Skills, Social Skills).
- Act as a Key Worker for pupils with an EHCP, attending Annual Reviews, PSP meetings and contributing to target-setting.
- Build positive, supportive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and responding sensitively to individual needs.
- Promote inclusion by encouraging interaction, independence and active engagement in school life.
- Provide in-class and withdrawal support for individuals and small groups.
- Work collaboratively with specialists such as Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Educational Psychologists.
- Support pupils with social, emotional, behavioural and wellbeing concerns—actively listening, building trust and ensuring that every pupil feels valued.
- Reinforce subject content, help develop cognitive skills, and support pupils in problem‑solving and investigative work.
- Encourage participation in the co‑curricular programme.
Monitoring & Communication
- Monitor and record pupil progress, reporting to the Head of Learning Support as required.
- Provide solution-focused mentoring to help pupils overcome barriers to learning.
- Support teachers by providing feedback on pupil behaviour, progress and engagement.
- Assist with assessing, recording and reporting, including verbal feedback to teachers and occasionally parents.
Operational & Pastoral Responsibilities
- Supervise pupils at break, lunch and before/after school as required.
- Support pupil use of ICT and assist with access arrangements in exams (training provided).
- Accompany pupils on day trips, activities and residentials.
- Attend staff meetings, Open Days/Evenings, training and school functions as required.
- Model the school’s ethos, values and safeguarding expectations at all times.
- Undertake playground duties and co‑curricular responsibilities in line with staff rotas.
- Work collaboratively with teaching colleagues and year group teams.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- A-Level or BTEC qualification.
- Minimum 5 GCSEs (A–C / Level 4 and above) including English and Maths.
- High standard of literacy and numeracy.
Experience & Knowledge
- Experience supporting pupils with specific learning difficulties (e.g. Dyslexia).
- Experience delivering one-to-one or small group support.
- Awareness of the SEND Code of Practice (2015).
- Understanding of how children develop socially, emotionally and cognitively.
- Willingness/ability to support learning at KS3 and KS4 (particularly English/Maths).
- Experience supporting children in a school or youth setting (desirable).
