Location: Eastlea Community School, London E16

Salary: Scale 4, Points 7-10 (competitive, depending on experience)

Hours: 36 hours/week (alternate weeks: Week 1 - 7:00am-3:00pm; Week 2 - 10:30am-6:30pm)

Contract: Permanent, 52 weeks/year

Eastlea Community School, part of Newham Community Learning, is looking for a reliable and hands-on (Assistant) Site Supervisor to join our friendly Premises Team.

You'll play a vital role in keeping our school safe, welcoming, and well-maintained for students, staff, and visitors. From maintenance and grounds upkeep to security, Health & Safety compliance, and emergency response, your work will help our school community thrive.

What You'll Do:

Use IT compliance tools (e.g., iAM Compliant) to log, track, and update maintenance jobs.
Carry out planned and ad hoc maintenance of buildings, equipment, and non-curricular areas.
Undertake handyperson duties, minor repairs, and improvements to school décor.
Support the safe operation of mechanical, electrical, heating, water services, and lifts.
Maintain school grounds: planting, pruning, weeding, watering, and general upkeep.
Assist with security, fire safety, first aid equipment, and safe storage of hazardous materials.
Respond proactively to emergencies (accidents, vandalism, or urgent maintenance).
Liaise with contractors and internal teams to monitor services and contracts.
Deputise for the Premises Manager when required.
Undertake relevant training to ensure all duties are performed safely and effectively.

Who We're Looking For:

Experience in maintenance, handyperson duties, caretaking, building maintenance, or security (including alarm systems).
Desirable: gardening/grounds maintenance and DIY skills.
Team player who can also work independently and take initiative.
Practical, proactive, and aware of Health & Safety regulations.
Able to carry out manual handling and work at heights using appropriate equipment.
Committed to safeguarding, promoting equality, and maintaining a safe and positive school environment.
Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Able to carry out premises inspections, risk assessments, and maintain accurate records.
